What it is & What It Is Not

Hypnotherapy is a mode of therapy that is gentle. You can achieve a heightened state of consciousness or mindfulness. 

 

Hypnotherapy is also referred to as guided hypnosis. Hypnosis is a heightened state of relaxation and hypnotherapy is the therapeutic approach used to help you relax, concentrate, and gain focused attention to access your thoughts and beliefs located in your subconscious mind. 

 

The subconscious mind is just that … sub – conscious, below your conscious state, and usually you are unaware of what you are really thinking, believing, etc.

Roughly, 90-95% of how you believe and behave comes from thoughts you don’t think twice about. You will respond in an ‘automatic’ way.

 

Have you ever wanted something, such as a dog, but can not allow yourself to buy one or become an owner? If may appear strange to you as many of your adult friends and their families live safely and happily with a dog.

What is preventing you from achieving this experience? Your subconscious mind.

 

 

Perhaps, when you were 5 years old, you were bit by a dog, and you learned that ‘dogs’ are dangerous, and you need to protect yourself from them.

 

These experiences, thoughts, feelings are all stored in long term memory in your subconscious mind.

 

Hypnotherapy helps you access your subconscious mind, bless, and release old thoughts, ways of relating and responding to situations and take on new ways of thinking and responding that you, as a client have decided.

You could see a therapist for behavioural support or … you could see a hypnotherapist.

The findings indicate the efficacy of various methods of therapy. However, you get to choose. What are you comfortable with?

Hypnotherapy can be for everyone, and everyone can be hypnotized. Hypnotherapy cannot make you do anything your conscious and subconscious minds do not agree with.

Hypnotherapy is considered an alternative healing modality with the purpose of accessing the subconscious mind to:  

 

  • to help reduce or alleviate a variety of issues, such as psychological distress, fears, anxiety, self-esteem, challenging relationship with self or others and unhealthy, harmful, or dangerous habits. 

 

The goal of hypnotherapy is to create a positive change in an individual, while they are in a state of deep relaxation or trance.

Fully awake, one's brain wave levels are at a Beta state. Once you relax, the brain waves slow down to an Alpha and Theta state. This state is also referred to as 'Trance'. It is during these brain wave states that one can access the subconsciousness mind.

Have you ever played a video game and ‘hyper focused’ or have driven somewhere and once you arrived, you could not remember how you got there?

 

On a daily basis, you naturally experience the state of trance when you daydream, meditate or hyper focus.

The subconscious mind

Your subconscious mind is very protective and

will only take on suggestions / ideas that it is willing to.

In hypnotherapy, you are awake and simply relaxed. You will remember what you say and experience. You are in control while in the relaxed state of hypnosis.

 

In hypnosis, the subconscious mind understands symbols, metaphors, textures, etc. Your words as a client, are used in a manner to emphasize symbols, metaphors, colors, textures to help guide you to your own solutions and answers.

In a sense, you will update your old patterns of thinking to new more helpful ones for you, that you want.

 

The approach is organic, neutral, and permission is asked throughout the entire session. Your subconscious mind knows what it is ready to work on and what it is not.

 

At any time, you can get up, scratch your ear, go use the washroom and return to continue working.

 

Hypnosis will open you to infinite possibilities that focus on your desired outcome(s).

Hypnotherapy is not Stage Hypnosis. This form of hypnosis is performed in front of an audience. The goal is to entertain and only people who are willing and highly suggestable are chosen to participate.

 

This form of hypnosis is temporary. The effects of the experience are removed at the end of the show and do not affect the participant’s life in any way.

 

In contrast, hypnotherapy is long lasting. A client experiences long-term behaviour change that supports them in their goal to lose weight, think positively about themselves, be less anxious, stop smoking, etc.

Coaching and Hypnotherapy compliment one another. Each session usually takes 1 hour.
